Founded in 2019 in Kuramae, Tokyo (a district long associated with artisanship), Mizusai began as a gallery dedicated to craft artists. It soon expanded to embrace contemporary art and antiques, without deference to categorical boundaries.

From its inception, Mizusai has taken to the road, travelling across Japan to encounter artists whose practices merit international attention. It has since cultivated a reciprocal dynamic: promoting Japanese artists abroad while opening its space to European and Asian creators.

Since 2024, this international engagement has taken on new forms, with exhibitions in Sweden, South Korea, China and soon in Paris with THEMA.
