MARIE KHOURI

MARIE KHOURI

Born in Egypt and raised in Lebanon, sculptor Marie Khouri, now based in Vancouver, draws inspiration from a rich blend of cultural and historical influences. Despite a childhood marked by the Lebanese civil war, her journey took her through Spain, Canada, and ultimately Paris, where she refined her craft at the École du Louvre.

Khouri's works transcend the boundaries between art and design, embodying the fluidity of modernist thought while infusing profound emotion into her sculptures. Influenced by Henry Moore's direct carving technique, her pieces intertwine language, form, and the human body, reflecting her intimate connection to the complex histories of the Middle East.

Over the past 15 years, Khouri has exhibited extensively across Europe and North America. She has more than 25 public works installed in Canada and abroad, while her monumental sculptures grace private collections worldwide. Her work has been showcased in prestigious venues such as the Vancouver Art Gallery and the Venice Biennale.

In the fall of 2024, Khouri's creations will be celebrated at the *Forever Is Now .04* exhibition, organized by Art d’Égypte at the foot of the pyramids of Giza.

Among her many accolades, Marie has received prestigious awards, including the BC Achievement Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Award and the National Order of Merit, bestowed by the French government.
